Growing Bonsai Indoors

Owners of bonsai trees know just how important temperature is for growing the plants. Different species grow well in different climates. There are also types that can survive indoors while others need to be cultivated outside the house, under the sun. Due to the temperature and climate requirements of bonsai, manufacturers have come up with gadgets like humidifiers and mist makers. These can help indoor bonsai growers to properly take care of their miniature trees.

A humidifier works best in the winter months, when the cold might take the life out of your tree. It can be used for your whole house, but you must make sure that it is able to effectively reach the area where your bonsai is. This is especially important if your plant is of the species that needs humidity in order to survive, like tropical plants do.

On the other hand, a mist maker can help your miniature tree breathe in the oppressive summer heat. Remember, not all plant species can survive too much heat. Some trees have a temperature limit. A mist maker will help ease the heat level of a room. It will also help prevent a plant from drying up and shrivelling.

Even though modern developments have produced gadgets that bonsai growers can take advantage of, one must remember that a bonsai still requires utmost attention and care. Nothing can take the place of a watchful eye and intuition. So, if you plan to take care of bonsai indoors, you must learn how to take care of them. You must know, for example, where to place the plant. It will be best placed by a window, where it can get enough UV rays and fresh air. Ideally, the plant must be kept in conditions with a temperature no less than 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Also, you must generously spray it with water throughout the day, especially if you live in a dry climate. However, keeping the plant steeped in a basin full of water is a total bonsai no-no. This will only result to rotting roots, which will eventually kill the plant. This is why bonsai pots have holes for draining water.

These are only some fundamental tips that a beginner bonsai grower must know. There are plenty of other tips that you can learn in the other articles in this site. Most of all, glean learnings from your daily bonsai experience.
